Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

"What is hypnosis?"

Read the section on 'What is Hypnosis?' to find out more.

"What does hypnosis feel like?"

You might be surprised to learn that there's no such thing as a 'hypnotised feeling'!  In fact, many of my clients report "...I wasn't hypnotised...", "...I didn't feel anything...", "...Was I hypnotised?...".  This is quite normal.  The majority of people just feel incredibly relaxed and can hear and respond to my voice throughout the entire session.  There's no mystery to hypnosis, but the positive benefits can feel like magic!

"Do you use any drugs or tablets at all?"

Absolutely not.  Hypnosis is completely natural and drug-free.

"What if I don't want to change the way I think?"

That's a tricky one!  All of the issues David works with are to do with the way you think consciously and subconsciously.  In short, if you don't change the way you think, the problem is unlikely to go away.  When you have a problem, your mind can only see things in a limited way.  Hypnotherapy helps you create superb subconscious flexibility which leads to greater conscious understanding.

"Can anyone be hypnotised?"

Yes.  Anyone can be hypnotised, especially strong minded individuals and those who have a vivid imagination!  Exceptions are individuals who are in some way mentally impaired.  Excessive use of drugs and alcohol can also hinder the process.

"Can I get 'stuck' in hypnosis?

Not at all.  We all go into naturally induced trances every day, when driving, watching TV, or just daydreaming.  All hypnosis does is utilize that state to achieve the required change that you want.  If, for any reason, you need to awaken during the session (e.g. in the case of an emergency), you will be fully alert.

"Will I be made to do something against my will?" / Will I be 'controlled' in any way?

No.  Most definitely not.  This is a common misconception which stems from negative media portrayals of hypnosis (so you won't be made to 'quack like a duck' or pretend to be Elvis Presley!).  You cannot be made to do something that is against your moral code, beliefs and self-preservation.  You cannot be controlled or manipulated in any way.  If this were to happen, the hypnotic state would be immediately broken.  David adheres to a strong code of ethics from his professional organisation, APHP.

"Is hypnosis like sleep?"

No.  But it looks like you are asleep.  It's actually very similar to daydreaming, but with your eyes closed.  Quite simply, it's a very relaxed state of mind that you often experience just before you go to sleep at night and just before you wake up in the morning - very pleasant.

"How many sessions will I need?"

That depends on the presenting difficulty and the corresponding treatment required.  Some sessions (e.g. Quit Smoking) are 'one-offs'.  Some symptoms require 1-3 sessions.  More 'deep-rooted' issues usually require 8-12 sessions.

"How can you solve a problem that I've had for years in a relatively short space of time?"

Aha - David won't be solving it - YOU will!  You are the only person who can.  We have the map of how to get you from where you are to where you want to be, but you do the walking.  Some problems work like a light-bulb - it can take the same amount of time to turn it off as is it did to turn it on...no matter how long it's been on for...if that makes a sort of sense.

"What's my 'subconscious' mind?"

Have you even been driving or walking from A to B and when you got to your destination thinking "I don't remember parts of that journey."  Well, if you don't remember, then who was doing the walking or driving?  Of course it was you, but you did it (or parts of it) subconsciously.  The unwanted problem you have runs in the subconscious and so you might not consciously recall how or what sets it off, it just seems to happen.

"Will I need a doctor's referral?"

Maybe.  Some problems may require a doctors letter and this will be discussed on your free initial consultation.

"How much does the treatment cost?"

With something as important as your health and state of mind, it's best for you to book a FREE initial consultation where you can talk to David about your situation.  All you have to lose is about 30 minutes of your time - and your problems!  We want you as a successful client, and we have found that you'll get the best results when you make a clear decision to step up and do whatever it takes to be successful getting what you want.  Contact details can be found on the right-hand side of the page.  You can contact David directly by clicking here.
